The paintings of Elisabeth Salberg and Mariah Pfeiffer will be on display during the month of September in the Woman’s Hospital Association Rotating Art Gallery at Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston.

Salberg began painting in 2013 after retiring from a 34-year career as a Registered Nurse. She is a member of Maine Women in the Arts and has exhibited her paintings in Bath, Belfast, Brunswick, Falmouth, Hallowell, Kennebunkport, Norway, Portland, Sanford, and Yarmouth, as well as locally in Auburn and Lewiston.

“Nature, light, color, form and texture have always fascinated me, and the beauty of Maine constantly confronts me, encouraging me to turn what I see into a painting that others might enjoy.”

Mariah Pfeiffer is a printmaker, watercolorist, and nurse. She believes that there is always something beautiful and inspiring to notice if you pay attention, and that focusing on small details can help us stay present to the constant rhythm of change. In this series of paintings, she was inspired by moving back to the Lewiston/Auburn area and noticing the deep history of our area as reflected in its architecture, and the changes of our community shown in how buildings are updated or fall into disrepair. At least one of these buildings has been demolished since it was painted, and others have been restored to their full glory. She hopes these paintings serve as a record of change and a reminder of beauty in the details.

The works on display may be purchased through the WHA Gift Shop located adjacent to the main lobby at Central Maine Medical Center. A percentage of sale proceeds benefits patients of CMMC.
