RANGELEY – WRGY 90.5 FM Station Manager, Iris Ramirez, was awarded a $2,000 scholarship by the Maine Association of Broadcasters (MAB) for the 2024-2025 academic year. Recipients of this award are chosen by the MAB Board of Directors through an application process. The recipient must show strengths in academic achievement, community service, and dedication to the broadcasting field.
Iris Ramirez began her career with WRGY back in 2021 as Assistant Manager while working towards her Bachelor’s Degree in Music and Arts Management at The University of Tulsa. During this time she worked remotely from Tulsa, Oklahoma but continued to work under the direction of Ernest Gurney. In 2023 Ramirez moved to Rangeley fulltime to begin her new position as Station Manager. She now attends The University of Oklahoma Online and is expecting to complete her Master’s Degree in Arts Management in 2024. The online program consists of 10 various courses committed to business management for arts organizations including nonprofits in media and communication.
“There wouldn’t be a community radio station without the community,” Ramirez says. She continues by adding her remarks to the Rangeley community, “I am so grateful for the people who stop by the station to say hi and mention how meaningful WRGY is to them. I see the impact we make to the community and I feel so honored to be a part of this effect.”
Since her arrival to Rangeley in 2023, Ramirez has helped increase WRGY’s community engagement, continues to diversify and update scheduled programming, and has helped plan the return of WRGY live events such as the June production, RadioFest. When she is not building your next favorite music playlist you can find Iris enjoying an iced latte at the Rangeley Hideaway or working on the Sunday Bulletins for Rangeley’s Church of the Good Shepherd.
Ramirez will be attending the MAB Annual Meeting and Award Gala on October 26, 2024, where she will be recognized for her achievement.
