NORWAY — On Sept. 11, American Legion Post 82 in Norway hosted Charlie Paul, vice chairman of the Honor Flight Maine program. He explained the program and how much veterans enjoy being taken to visit the memorials honoring soldiers from WWII, Korea, and Vietnam. There is also a memorial specifically honoring women.
It’s a chance for the veterans to share their stories with others. Each veteran has a guardian (friend or relative) to take care of them. The experience is often enlightening for the guardians. The whole trip is organized and great care is taken for the veterans. If you are a veteran or know of a veteran who would like to go on a Honor Flight you can apply online at honorflightmaine.org.
Charlie told us about a new program that will allow veterans who are not able to travel to see the monuments by using virtual reality headsets. The Stone Smart Unit 82 Auxiliary donated $2000 for the program. We want to thank all veterans for their service to our country. We are proud to be able to help with the Honor Flight program.
