Time and again we are heartbroken by the news of mass shootings, even as Lewiston joined the ever-growing list.

As we struggle to prevent more deaths and keep our children safe, we turn to our state legislators to support efforts to address mental health needs in Maine.

Unfortunately, state Rep. Austin Theriault, candidate for Congress from the Second District, repeatedly voted against funding that expanded and strengthened mental health services in Maine. He also voted against efforts to fund increases for property tax relief, funds to provide counseling and ongoing health care for victims of the Oct. 25 mass shooting, funds to reimburse Maine cities and towns for the overtime costs of the manhunt, and funds to address stress related illnesses in first responders.

People shouldn’t let Austin Theriault fool them. He has done nothing to help those suffering with mental illness and has been no friend to the taxpayers of Lewiston.
