DEAR SUN SPOTS: Lisbon Area Christian Outreach, or LACO, has an important fundraiser coming up. A food drive, bottle drive and bake sale to benefit the LACO Food Pantry is set for 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 4, and 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 5 at Food City on state Route 196 in Lisbon Falls.
We are collecting nonperishable food, baked goods, cans, bottles and cash donations.
Checks should be made out to LACO. To have donations picked up Thursday, Oct. 3, call Jenny Poisson at 207-240-6499. You can also call me at 207-216-3460.
LACO is supported by the towns of Lisbon, Durham and Bowdoin, with the assistance of the Good Shepherd Food Bank and the organization also holds fundraisers.
LACO fed about 40,000 people in 2023.
Not only are those in need served through the food pantry and clothing bank, but the organization also provides birthday bags, backpacks with school supplies and Christmas gifts for children through the giving tree.
Other efforts to note are that one volunteer knits pairs of socks for every child at Christmas. Turkeys are provided for the holidays, as well as gift cards for gas and food.
LACO also provides food for the summer camp at the MTM Community Center, and assists those who need community service hours, including high school students who need service credits to graduate and the Boy Scouts. It also provides volunteer opportunities for Liberty Mutual and Bank of America employees.
LACO also assists the homeless, including those who live in motels and campgrounds, and it collects crutches, walkers and wheelchairs to give to those in need.
LACO volunteers are here for those who need prayers or just need to talk. —Bert, Lisbon

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Thank you for your help recently when I asked about a recommendation for a seamstress. I was able to get to Veronica’s in Greene to help me with the alterations I needed for an upcoming wedding. She is amazing, has been in business for 40 years, and her specialty is wedding gowns. She was able to help me and knew just what I needed. I would recommend her to anyone.—No name, Lewiston
ANSWER: I am glad that worked out for you.
