In the coming months, Bryant Pond Village will likely be adorned with holiday banners and a new digital sign, thanks to approval last week by the Woodstock selectmen.
The town has leftover funds and utility pole sign brackets from its bicentennial celebration in 2015. Town Manager Vern Maxfield last week suggested both be used to display holiday-season-themed banners on the utility poles in the village. He estimated the cost per banner to be roughly $100, and said he would research it.
Another improvement to the downtown decor will be a new digital information board-style sign in front of the Town Office. The current one has many lights that don’t work and passing drivers can’t read it easily, especially coming from the south on Route 26. At the first board meeting this month selectmen discussed replacing it with a four-line sign, which is twice the current number. Chairman Ron Deegan suggested that Maxfield look for a sign with a higher pixel count to also improve readability.
Last week, the board approved up to $20,000 for a new one.
The funds would come from the Spruce Mountain Account, a fund established when the Spruce Mountain wind farm project was built 12 years ago. The wind company contributes $20,000 a year to it for use by the town. The account currently totals $117,000, according to Maxfield.
Also coming from that account will be $17,500 to go toward fixing the Andrews Road Bridge guardrail, which has accident and storm-related damage.
The Select Board is scheduled to meet next on Oct. 1 at 5 p.m. at the Town Office.
