WEST PARIS — The First Universalist Church of West Paris at 208 Main St. is continuing a variety of speakers and themes to use in one’s every day life during the 9 a.m. Sunday worship services.
Music will performed by guitarist Davy Sturtevant at the following services.
Oct. 6, “Unity and Community,” led by Bob Neal.
Oct. 13, “Agape Love,” led by The Rev. Linda Couture.
Agape Love is Greek meaning a selfless, unconditional love that transcends personal desires or feelings, requiring a conscious decision and often associated with divine love as detailed in the New Testament. Couture, a licensed pastor in the United Church of Christ, Maine Conference, is the pastor at the West Paris Mission Congregational Church UCC.
Oct. 20, “Poetry in Shared Stories of the Unexpected” (rescheduled from September), led by Maryli Tiemann.
This service will kick off a series focusing on poets. Tiemann will bring copies of “Read to Me Some Poem,” the Maine poetry anthology she co-edited this January.
Oct. 27, “Encounter with Mystery: One Naturalist’s story,” led by the worship service committee and guest speaker Sara Wright. She will read a creation story she wrote about her present inquiries into fungal networks and include a personal narrative to demonstrate how storytelling can be a compelling way to invite others into the wonder and mystery of nature.
Wright writes a bi-weekly column for the Bethel Citizen, “Backyard Reflections.” She also contributes a monthly column for “Small Things,” the Mahoosuc Land Trust’s Newsletter, and writes for The Abiquiu News, SeedBroadcast, Dark Matter and several other publications on a regular basis. She also has essays in 16 books and has written two of her own.
Refreshments following the service. All are welcome.
