AUBURN — Police, fire and emergency services were on scene of a motor vehicle crash Monday morning on Route 4 which closed the entire road near the Auburn and Turner town lines for several hours, according to an Auburn Police Department Facebook post.

Albert Deschaine, 36, of Peru was traveling north in his 2007 Chevrolet pickup truck when it hydroplaned, crossed the centerline into oncoming traffic, the post said. Deschaine’s truck collided with a southbound 2022 Toyota SUV driven by James Halliday, 78, of Auburn.

Deschaine and Halliday were both transported to Central Maine Medical Center, the post said.

Halliday was then transported to Maine Medical Center in Portland in critical condition.

Deschaine sustained serious, but not life-threatening injuries from being ejected from his vehicle upon impact, according to the post.

Speed and road conditions were likely contributing factors to the crash, but charges have not been filed as the crash remains under investigation, the post said.

Route 4 was closed in both directions for several hours for crash reconstruction.
