DEAR SUN SPOTS: I am hoping that someone out there in Sun Spots land would have a box or two of old Mother Earth News magazines stashed away in the garage that might like a new home. I have read the only one available from my local library and I inquired about any from other libraries in the Minerva Library Catalog, to no avail. Also, I am keeping my fingers crossed that someone in my vicinity cultivates their own kefir daily. I’d love to start daily batches as soon as I can. Also brewing kombucha batches would be another source if someone has SCOBY (a symbiotic culture of bacteria and yeast that promotes fermentation) to share. My phone number is 207-562-8208. I can receive text messages as well as voicemail but my phone rings six to eight times before voicemail kicks in. Thank you, Ms. Sun Spots, for your articles in the daily paper. It’s my favorite part of the paper. — No name, Dixfield

ANSWER: I hope you get answers from our readers. And sometimes swap shops, collections of free stuff that people drop off at transfer stations, have piles of magazines. Or you could try the Buy Nothing Facebook page in your area. Just search for “Buy Nothing Project Rumford/Mexico,” join and let members know what you’re looking for.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Do you have any knowledge about the paintings of Gladys Prescott, back in the late 1970s? Thank you. — No name, Auburn

ANSWER: We did many searches but could find very little about Gladys Prescott (1899-1987) or her paintings, other than that she painted landscapes, including nautical views, in oil. Some of her work is for sale online, including a nautical oceanscape painting on canvas panel, signed by the artist, listed for $330 on chairish.com.

Readers, if you know anything about this artist, please write in!
