OXFORD — A dozen fire departments responded Wednesday morning to reports of a house fire on King Street, according to officials.
Fire crews were dispatched to 290 King St. around 9:38 a.m. and were met with heavy smoke pushing from the eaves and soffits of a 2.5-story home, Oxford Fire Rescue Deputy Chief Shawn Cordwell said in a news release.
The family residing at the home were present at the time of the blaze, but made it safely out of the building, Cordwell said.
The building was not a complete loss, he added.
Cordwell said firefighters discovered fire in the walls between the second and third floors which extended into the roof area. The three-alarm fire was knocked down in about an hour with the help of several area fire departments, he said.
The cause of the fire is under investigation, but preliminary investigation deemed the fire not to be suspicious.
Fire departments from Auburn, Casco, Harrison, Hebron, Mechanic Falls, Norway, Otisfield, Paris and Poland provided mutual aid at the scene. Bridgton and Waterford fire departments provided station coverage.
