Award-winning children’s author Margy Burns Knight will host a book launch event for her latest children’s book “Who Needs a Statue?” at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 2nd at the Bailey Public Library in Winthrop. The free program will feature a live reading of the book followed by an art activity for children.
Kirkus Reviews described the book as a “powerful gallery of intrepid American groundbreakers, pathfinders, and activists.”
Knight is a recipient of the National Education Association’s Author Illustrator Human and Civil Rights Award, which recognizes individuals that advance human and civil rights, and expand educational opportunities for marginalized students. She is best known for her book “Talking Walls,” which is used in classrooms across the country and has sold over 200,000 copies. The book was named one of the “Top 25 Non-Fiction Children’s Books” by the Boston Globe, as well as “Best Multicultural Book” by Publishers Weekly. Knight was a 35-year resident of Winthrop before relocating to Waterville. She is a graduate of Bowdoin College and taught English Language Learners in various public schools in Maine for decades.
