JAY — Staff at Spruce Mountain Elementary School appeared in the corridors around 12:30 p.m. on Thursday afternoon, Oct. 31, to gift students with a variety of goodies to help celebrate Halloween.
Students in the fourth grade were the first to make their way through the hallways carrying paper bags – that they had previously decorated – sporting handles. As they made their way past teachers and other staff, each opened a bag wide to allow a piece of candy, pencil, plastic fangs, a sticker or toy to be dropped into it.
Principal Pat St. Clair called out two students as they passed by. “Do you know the number one rule?” he asked. When neither could provide it, he shared that students are not allowed to grow taller than he is until they reach the middle school, which drew laughs from those nearby.
Fifth grade students were selected to collect their treats next with third grade students being the last to do so.
