PARIS — Veterans’ groups Foster Carroll American Legion Post #72 and VFW Post 9787, both of Paris, are on a mission to make sure every veteran around Oxford Hills is aware of the benefits they have earned in service to their country.

Going on two years, the organizations have incorporated Resource Fairs into their holiday remembrances, starting on Memorial Day in 2023.

Sarah Glynn, commander of South Paris’ American Legion, has invited federal and local agencies, politicians and volunteer groups to participate at this year’s Veterans Day ceremony Nov. 11 at Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School.

The doors will open at 9 a.m. for veterans and their families to learn more about available support services. Ceremonies begin in the auditorium at 10 a.m.; following that the Resource Fair will continue.

U.S. Congressman Jared Golden and U.S. Senators Angus King and Susan Collins will have their area delegates in attendance to answer questions and provide guidance to veterans facing obstacles to receiving services. All three are known to help cut through the red tape that can sometimes have beneficiaries ready to throw up their hands.

The Department of Veterans Affairs’s presence  will include the Veterans Benefits Administration. Maine Veterans Services as well as medical service providers, Martin’s Point Health Care which administers healthcare services to veterans in Maine, and Health Affiliates which provides case management, will also be in attendance.

To learn more about housing, employment training, community support and education attendees can meet with representatives from Community Concepts, Veterans Upward Bound, Disable American Veterans, Honor Flight Maine, Quilts of Valor, the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars and Boothbay Vets Trailers.
