100 Years Ago: 1924

Both the Elm Street Universalist church, Auburn, and the Auburn Home for Aged Women are to receive bequests from the estate of Martha Dresser Roberts who died recently in New York, and who was formerly an Auburn woman.

To the Elm Street Universalist Church or the First Universalist church of Auburn as it is known, is left $500, according to a notice received by James E. Philoon, Auburn attorney, a prominent member of the parish. The amount which the Auburn Home for Aged Women will receive is not known, notice merely having been received that a bequest will be forthcoming:

50 Years Ago: 1974

Leaking oil, bad tires, dented fenders, and an assortment of other auto ailments are plaguing the Lewiston Police Department’s cruisers as they move into the last couple of months’ use before the yearly trade-in time.

“I certainly wouldn’t want to  buy a used cruiser!” said Chief Lucien Longtin today.

The six cruisers out on Lewiston’s streets have odometer readings of more than 65,000 miles each. They’ll be traded-in for 1975 H Plymouths at the end of January.

25 Years Ago: 1999

A surprise party was held on Aug. 21 for John and Susan Chasse of Lisbon Falls, on the occasion of their 25th wedding anniversary. The event was held outside on the Bowdoinham Road.
