The University of Maine women’s soccer team advanced to the NCAA Division I tournament for the second straight season and will face Wisconsin in the first round at 7 p.m. Friday in Madison, Wisconsin.
The Black Bears (13-1-3) earned a bid by beating New Hampshire in the conference title game, 3-0 on Sunday. Jordan Pinette, Abby Kraemer and Lara Kirby scored for Maine. The 13 wins are the most for the Black Bears since 2006, when they went 14-4-2.
Maine lost to Harvard in the first round of the NCAA Division I tournament last year.
Wisconsin (9-5-4) earned an at-large bid. The Badgers lost in the first round of the Big Ten tournament to Ohio State.
DIVISION III: Southern Maine earned its third straight NCAA tournament bid and will face Johns Hopkins in the first round in Ewing, New Jersey on Saturday.
The Huskies (15-2-3) earned a spot in the tournament with a 3-0 win over Western Connecticut in the Little East Conference tournament final on Saturday. Johns Hopkins earned an automatic bid to the tournament by winning the Centennial Conference Tournament.
Colby (11-4-3) will face Claremont-Mudd-Scripps College (13-3-3) in the first round at 1:30 p.m. Saturday in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
Colby lost in the New England Small College Athletic Conference tournament final to Amherst in penalty kicks.
FIELD HOCKEY
DIVISION III: Bates reached the NCAA tournament for the second straight season and will host Stevens Institute of Technology at 4 p.m. Wednesday.
The Bobcats (12-6) earned an at-large bid in the tournament after losing the in New England Small College Athletic Conference tournament championship game, 1-0 in a shootout against Tufts. Bates upset six-time defending champion Middlebury, the No. 1 ranked team in the country at the time, 2-1 in the conference semifinals on Saturday.
Stevens (15-5) earned a bid to the tournament by beating Arcadia University, 2-1, in the Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom championship game on Saturday.
The winner of Wednesday’s game will face Babson or Keene State in the second round at 2 p.m. Saturday at Tufts College in Medford, Massachusetts.
MEN’S SOCCER
DIVISION III: For the second time in three years, Bowdoin will play in the NCAA tournament when if faces Hardin-Simmons at 8:30 p.m. Friday in San Antonio.
The Polar Bears (7-5-5) earned an at-large bid to the tournament. They were eliminated from the NESCAC tournament with a 1-0 loss to Middlebury in the semifinals on Saturday. Eight NESCAC teams qualified for the NCAA tournament.
This is Bowdoin’s fifth NCAA tournament appearance under Coach Scott Wiercinski. In 2022, the Polar Bears advanced to the Elite Eight before falling to Mary Washington, 3-2.
Thomas earned a berth into the tournament by beating SUNY Delhi, 2-0, in the North Atlantic Conference final. The Terriers (13-1-4) will face Buffalo State (15-2-3) Saturday in Medford, Massacusetts.
