DEAR SUN SPOTS: What should you get mémère and pépère for Christmas? Think about genealogy. What about a direct line back to your immigrant ancestors from France?
Maine Franco-American Genealogical Society researchers using MFGS resources will attempt to identify one individual line of ancestors with dates and places of marriage for up to 13 generations back to France in the 1600s for a flat fee. This ancestral line chart will be printed in color on an ivory parchment suitable for framing.
The membership price is $20 and the nonmembership price is $40, with the deadline for requests for holiday giving being Wednesday, Nov. 27.
Please email info@mfgen.org for more information or to place a request. — No name, Lewiston
ANSWER: Once again, the Maine Franco-American Genealogical Society, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, self-help genealogical research organization dedicated to assisting individuals in discovering their family’s Franco-American history, is offering this service and I agree that it makes a unique and thoughtful family gift.
DEAR SUN SPOTS: The Heywood Club in Norway will again having its Lights of Love Christmas Tree at the four corners on Crockett Ridge.
This year our tree will be named “Dominic” for a young man whose life ended way too soon. A portion of our profits will be given to the Forestry Department of Oxford Hills Technical School in his memory.
The remainder of the proceeds will go to our maintenance fund to help us replace a sill on the backside of our 117-year old building.
You can help us achieve this by purchasing a bulb for the tree in honor of or in memory of someone you love. The bulbs will be $5 each and the tree will light up the four corners by the club from Sunday, Dec. 1, through New Year’s Eve.
We appreciate all the support you have given us in the past few years. You can send your donations by check to the Ladies Heywood Club. Please address your donation to Barbara Townsend, 475 Crockett Ridge Road, Norway, ME 04268. If you have any questions, you can call me at 890-2103.
We also look forward to seeing you the second Saturday in June 2025 for our 7 Mile Yard Sale. – Barbara, Norway
ANSWER: All these lights to honor our loved ones are one impressive, meaningful sight during the holidays and I encourage you to participate if you can. And remember to mark your new 2025 calendars with the yard sale date — you don’t want to miss that either!
