DEAR SUN SPOTS: I’m hoping to visit Greece sometime soon and would like to learn the basics of the Greek language before going. I was wondering if any Sun Spots readers has a Greek grammar book and other resources that they would share with me to help me with my endeavor. Please contact me at 795-6791. — Bernie, no town

ANSWER: Now that is something to look forward to! You may want to also reach out to the members of the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church at 155 Hogan Road in Lewiston (783-6795, holytrinitymaine@gmail.com). They may be able to help you. I hope you have success in your search and in learning a new language, and hopefully you will not only learn how to speak some Greek but learn about the culture and make some new friends along the way.

To augment learning from a book or another Greek-speaking person, you may want to check out some of the language apps on the market. You can try apps such as Babbel, Duolingo and Memrise for free, to name just a few. And remember, Google Translation can also help you once you get to your destination. Let us know how it goes.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: The Ladies of Mu Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma International is bringing back its annual Teddy Bear Fair at the Lewiston High School gym on Saturday, Nov. 16, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The Ladies of Mu are all educators, active and retired, from the Lewiston/Auburn area. Money generated by the fair goes to scholarships, one for a graduating senior from one of the high schools in the Twin Cities and surrounding communities, who plans to go into education; the other goes to a Delta Kappa Gamma member who is working on an advanced degree.

The Ladies of Mu will sell baked goods such as cookies, cakes, pies, bread, and an assortment of candies and pastries; used books and DVDs; white elephant items; harvest items such as jellies, jams, salsas, pickles; gently loved stuffed animals; crafts including knitted scarves, hats and mittens, baby layettes, kitchen towels and dishcloths, and holiday crafts including Christmas and Thanksgiving decorations.

We will also have a raffle table with handmade items, gift certificates for lobster and gas, a children’s craft basket, and many other treasures. We hope many will come out to see us and support our efforts to raise scholarship money. — No name, no town

ANSWER: Thank you for all the hard work you do year after year to make this happen.
