FARMINGTON – Eight-year-old Theo and six-year-old Dash Stone could be seen selling rocks, toys, and fire-starters on the side of the road on Monday, Nov. 11.

Theo said that the sale was inspired by a yard sale that his mom had a while ago when they were moving into their house. It was his first yard sale. “It was so good. We got a lot of money. It was really fun,” Theo said. “And then we kept wanting to do it,” said Dash.

This was the first time that Dash participated in the rock sale. Theo had done his first rock sale early this past October and decided to donate half of his earnings to the Franklin County Animal Shelter. A post from the shelter on Facebook reads, “He is such a sweet boy with a very kind heart to think of all the animals to give his earnings to!”

“I thought they got more money,” said Theo about animal shelters, explaining why he decided to donate. He said that he likes animals and he even has a cat of his own named Pirate. He also shared that he had a white cat named Ghost that sadly passed away last year after being struck by a car.

During his first rock sale, Theo made over $40 and donated around $20 to the animal shelter. His mother, Amber Stone, said that Theo was shocked to realize how much money he would be giving away when he agreed to give half to the shelter. This time around, he only made one sale and decided to keep the money.

When asked if he had any advice for other people trying to make money by having a yard sale, Theo said: “Be patient, sell a lot of stuff. Having more gives you a bigger chance of selling things.”
