FARMINGTON — Franklin County Courthouse will soon be getting new windows and sills after commissioners accepted a quote Tuesday from Maine Windows and Doors in Portland, Facilities Manager Nick Palmer said.

The cost is about $181,332, the lowest quote, and the money will come out of American Rescue Plan Act funds the county received from the federal government. Commissioners approved the grant request for funding on Nov. 12.

“Every window will be replaced” on the main and second floors Palmer said Wednesday. The company will pull out the windows and the rotten sills and put the new windows in, including the transom windows. The windows, which will be Andersen windows, will be finished on the exterior with white PVC board.

“It will be maintenance free,” Palmer said. “I am very grateful for the ARPA funds.” Otherwise this project would have had to wait, he said.

The windows on the second floor are 11 feet, 5 inches tall, he said. Palmer previously replaced the windows on the ground floor.

The plan is to replace two windows per day once they are on site. He ordered the windows and they are expected to come in four to six weeks.

In other business Tuesday, commissioners approved paying 0.5% and the employees paying 0.5% toward the 1% of their wages for Maine Paid Family and Medical Leave. The program would give employees up to 12 weeks off for family and medical leave. The collection of money will begin on Jan. 1, 2025, and the leave will be available to take in May 2026.

Union representatives will be asked to open up contracts to discuss the family and leave contribution.

Commissioners rejected, by lack of second to a motion, to give a per-shift rate of $25 for two facility employees Monday through Friday for on-call pay between Nov. 15 and April 30, each year, in case of snow or ice that needs to be cleared, or a furnace malfunctions. There was additional pay for certain times including holidays if a facility employee was called in.
