I have just come from the Bates Mill Atrium and witnessed the portrait collection “Americans Who Tell the Truth” by Maine artist Robert Shetterly.
He is showing 260 portraits of living and dead individuals who “tell the truth.” Each painting is accompanied by a quote which explains “his, or her” truth.
There is also a photographic stamp under each portrait that allows people to access more information on their phone. It is amazing.
I would encourage all history teachers to bring their classes to see this.
Everybody should take advantage of this important contribution to our community.
I thank Robert Shetterly for his life’s work.
