AUBURN — The Stanton Bird Club is set to host the second in its 2024-25 lecture series from 4-6 p.m. Monday, Dec. 2, at Auburn Public Library, 49 Spring St.
The talk will focus on birds of the temperate zone with Micah Miller, director of the Arctic Program with the Biodiversity Research Institute.
Miller joined the Institute in 2023 after working in Alaska for many years on a wide range of projects on waterfowl, upland birds, and seabirds with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. Among the birds he studied were the Spectacled Eider, spectacular birds which breed on the Alaskan and Russian tundra, according to a news release from Jeri Maurer with the bird club.
A native of Maine, Miller received his undergraduate degree at the University of Alaska Fairbanks and went on to complete his graduate studies at Southern Illinois University. He is now focused on the conservation of loons and Arctic birds, as well as the study of legacy and emerging contaminants impacting North American bird populations.
The public is welcome. The lecture series is free.
