DIXFIELD — A local man is in the hospital after suffering third-degree burns from an outdoor fire Monday afternoon, officials said.
Dixfield Fire Chief Scott Dennett said crews were dispatched to the area of 57 High St. at 3:54 p.m. for reports of an outdoor fire and burn victim.
When his crews arrived they discovered a man of about 70 years old being treated by ambulance personnel for third-degree burns across much of the lower portion of his body.
Dennett said witnesses to the incident reported the man’s clothes caught fire and that he attempted to stop, drop and roll to put the flames out.
The man was transported by Med-Care Ambulance to Rumford Hospital.
Dennett said he reported the incident to the Office of State Fire Marshal, which investigates all burn victim incidents.
