We had nearly 100 correct answers for last week’s Mystery Photo of the statues of Paul Bunyan and Babe the Blue Ox next to the information booth at J. Eugene Boivin Park on Bridge Street in Rumford, along the banks of the Androscoggin River. In a random drawing from all the correct entries, Deborah Milligan of Rumford was picked as the winner of a $25 Hannaford Supermarket gift card. Some entrants mentioned that Paul Bunyan was originally located at the former Puiia’s Hardware store and was moved across the street when the store was demolished. Several people also mentioned that Babe was previously located across the river in front of the former Rite Aid, but was moved when Walgreens bought the property and asked to have the statue removed. Others mentioned that when the two statues were located apart, giant blue footsteps were painted on the ground leading from one to the other.
