I’m writing in response to Rich Hatch’s letter lamenting the lack of role models and societal standards (“Blame lack of role models and no societal standards,” Nov. 30).

It was disappointing that what could have been a worthwhile discourse on this subject turn into a partisan hack job of liberals. Is Mr. Hatch not aware of Donald Trump’s incessant name calling, belligerence, and bullying behavior?

While Mr. Hatch (correctly) singles out Maxine Waters and Nancy Pelosi for their attacks on former President Trump, is he unaware of the degree of vitriol spewed by Republicans like Marjorie Taylor Greene, Jim Jordan, and many others toward President Biden?

Mr. Hatch goes on to accuse the media of printing “hateful, venomous letters” from the left and not allowing such letters from the right. I find that interesting as I read the letters column daily and largely recall letters based on facts and legitimate concerns. And I’ve certainly seen letters critical of both parties.

I would agree with Mr. Hatch that we have many poor role models of proper societal standards. I just find it amazing that he doesn’t consider Donald Trump to be the major exhibit for that declining societal standard considering his returning to the presidency despite behavior that would have been unacceptable in almost any job years ago.

Before one accuses me of being “partisan,” I’ll add that Trump’s political affiliation is irrelevant. There are poor role models who can be singled out from all over the political spectrum. To claim that it is only a liberal problem is simply not true.
