To the Editor:

I am writing to express my enthusiastic support for the Northern Forest Center’s redevelopment of the historic Gehring House at the end of Broad Street in Bethel. When renovations are complete, the building will provide nine new, high-quality, middle-market apartments for local workers and families, helping to address the critical shortage of housing in our area that is affordable to teachers, healthcare workers, entrepreneurs, and others.

I am excited that this historic renovation project will also use sustainable, locally sourced materials and maintain access to the community trail through the property that many of us use and enjoy year-round.

It has been wonderful to witness the transformation of this beautiful property! Many local contractors have been a part of the project to date and many will be working there through the winter, with the goal of completion in the spring of 2025. How exciting to know that the building will come to life with new residents by next summer!

The Northern Forest Center must raise a final $340,000 to unlock a $250,000 challenge grant and meet its total fundraising goal by the end of December. This project is so important for our area to reach its highest potential and it is for this reason I have chosen to be a financial supporter!

I encourage everyone who loves Bethel and this beautiful landmark to join me in supporting this vital project. Donate online at https://northernforest.org/
