As 2025 approaches I feel it is a good time to remind the working people of Maine that most of them can look forward to seeing their paychecks reduced by the new tax that Gov. Janet Mills has implemented for her Maine Paid Family Medical Leave program.

This is a program that could see a significant amount of fraud while putting extra burden on employers to keep their businesses going. If it gives all the working people of the state any consolation, their employers will be paying this new tax, too.

And if this tax is not bad enough, companies like the one I work for have had to update their payroll systems to handle the implementation and reporting of this new tax. In my company’s case this cost ended up being $4,450.

Good job, Janet and the majority Democratic Legislature, for adding another burden to the hardworking people and businesses in the state of Maine.
