DEAR SUN SPOTS: I have lived on Lisbon Street for six years and during that time I have enjoyed watching a tall, elderly gentleman walking his little white Scotty dog. I had several very nice conversations with him and enjoyed petting “Q”, his dog. I cannot remember this man’s name, but learned many interesting facts about his life, including that he drove a school bus for the Lewiston School District.
It has been quite a long time since I have seen him and I wondered if any Sun Spotters know any information about him. Together, he and Q were a real fixture on Lisbon Street for years. The sight of the two of them always made me smile!—Barbara, Lewiston
ANSWER: I reworded your request just a little bit so I could put the word out to all Sun Spots readers, and I will send this letter out to them a couple of times so everyone is sure to see it. Surely, someone knows this gentleman and his dog, who you have described so well. My hope is that a few people will write to update us, then your mind will be eased by knowing.
DEAR SUN SPOTS: Will the Sun Journal be publishing a list of exceptional Christmas light displays in Lewiston-Auburn this year? I’d like to ride around with a cup of hot chocolate and carols on the radio to get into the Christmas spirit.—Rene, no town
ANSWER: We’ll get back to you on that, but in the meantime, I’ve seen some fantastic lights around various neighborhoods and downtown. Readers, can you direct us to some special displays for folks to drive by?
Please remember, dear ones, to be respectful as you’re admiring the lights, watch out for others, and stay within the speed limit.
There is so much to do to put yourself in the holiday spirit, whether you sit back with eggnog or popcorn and enjoy a classic Christmas movie, or read a Christmas story at home, bake cookies for loved ones, take a walk in the woods or your very own neighborhood, perform random acts of kindness, place battery-operated candles in your windows, bring a donation to a nonprofit organization … the list goes on.
My traditions admiring holiday lights include driving to downtown Brunswick, where I walk the length of Maine Street and get a hot chocolate at Gelato Fiasco. I also like the route from Bowdoin through Sabattus, where the light displays are especially epic.
Feel free to share your holiday traditions. You’ll surely brighten someone’s day by doing so. ‘Tis the season.
