BETHEL — As the festive season approaches, the Chamber of Commerce is hosting a special event that they hope will “light up the town.” Local businesses and homeowners are encouraged to participate in a house and storefront decorating contest.
The winner will be decided by public vote, with the votes closing Dec. 23. Votes can either be cast in person at the Chamber of Commerce, or sent via email. Already, some of the local storefronts have put out their Christmas displays, bringing a holiday cheer to Main Street.
The event is being organized with help from the Gemini Cafe and Walker Unlimited, who are sponsoring and helping provide prizes. “Walker Unlimited and Gemini Bakery & Café are both amazing sponsors and are so active in the community. We are very appreciative of their continued support of the Chamber and the community,” said Bobbi Vadenbulcke, executive director of the Chamber of Commerce.
There is a category for both business and homes, with a cash prize for first and second place. “It’s a great way to get both business and community working together,” she said, “And I love the way it can light up an entire community, holiday lights just make you happy!”
As it is still early in the month, there is no clear sign of who might be in the lead when it comes to the voting. Some homeowners may have not yet put out their decorations. But businesses are already putting out their holiday best in hopes of winning the sponsored prizes. The event applies to all of the town of Bethel, and Vadenbulcke hopes that it will bring a festive air to the town. “Let’s get festive and light up the community with holiday spirit!”
