RUMFORD — The 2024/25 Mountain Valley Rec Basketball League is underway with the first games being played on 12/1/24. The league started with the 1991 season and is in its 34th year. This year, 8 teams will compete, including returning champions, Hotel Rumford, captained by Tom Danylik. Joe Gaudreau sponsored and captained last year’s runner-up, A & G Carpentry of Bethel. Other entries include Smart Care PT, Inc. of Dixfield, sponsored and led by Cody St Germain, Clean Cut Painting of Mexico captained by Will Bean, Jay captained by Levi Armandi.
The Cherry Pickers are a rebranded team led by Gavin Hebert of Dixfield, Flint Tropics are also a rebranded team from Franklin County area with Mike Black heading the group and Team Zespy of Bethel is organized and captained by Jerome Holt. Games this year will be played at Mountain Valley High School and Dirigo High School, on Sundays at 9 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. In the first week, the results were Hotel Rumford, A & G Carpentry, Smart Care, and Cherry Pickers all winners. In the second week, 12/8/24, winners were Hotel Rumford, Smart Care, Cherry Pickers, and Clean Cut Painting.
Current standings are Hotel Rumford 2-0, Smart Care 2-0, Cherry Pickers 2-0, A & G Carpentry 1-1, Jay 1-1, Clean Cut Painting 1-1, Flint Tropics 0-2 and Team Zespy 0-2.
