OTISFIELD — The Live Nativity at Field of Faith on Lodge Hill attracted a crowd of 140 people on a “beautiful night.”
Although there were fewer spectators than last year — “most likely due to the cold temps” — everyone seemed to enjoy being there, Pastor Rick Mowery of Spurrs Corner Church said of the Dec. 14 pageant portraying the birth of Jesus.
Leah Libby-Menezes, Dan Ellsworth and baby Anastasia played the roles of the Holy family. They were joined by angels, shepherds and magi.
Having the main characters just inside the barn door with the crowd gathered around the patio outside allowed everyone to see the presentation easily, Mowery said. Other enhancements were a larger sound system, easier lighting set-up, more helpers and parking attendants, he said.
“The live animals went over very well, especially with children,” the pastor said. A small bull and two Nigerian goats added to the scene.
Four churches were involved in the Christmas program: Spurrs Corner and East Otisfield Free Baptist Church, both in Otisfield, and Oxford Advent Christian Church and Oxford Congregational Church.
Food was provided by people from other congregations in the area as well as those from the community.
“At the positive responses of many of those who attended, as well as the requests of many people who were unable to, we are planning to offer the community Live Nativity next year,” Mowery said. “Though it is a lot of prep work, seeing the crowd thoroughly enjoying the pageant, singing the songs, and enjoying the fellowship with food makes it more than worth it!”
