RUMFORD — Rumford Hospital nurse Penny Savage is the recipient of the DAISY Award, an international program recognizing nurses for their compassionate care and the difference they make in patients’ lives.
Savage works in the hospital’s emergency department. She was nominated by nurse leader Merideth Alanskas and Supervisor Tina True.
Her fellow team members cited her actions on two separate occasions that involved motor vehicle accidents and multiple victims. She helped the families find alternate transportation and living arrangements in the area. On one occasion, Savage loaned one of the families her car.
“She worked collaboratively with the team and family to make them safe and as comfortable as possible,” True said in a Central Maine Healthcare news release. “I am always proud to work with her.”
