PORTLAND — Rachel Penny and Layla Facchiano led the Edward Little girls basketball team to its second big road win of the week with a 45-40 victory over defending Class AA state champion Cheverus on Thursday.

Penny made four 3-pointers and scored 16 points, and Facchiano contributed 13 points for the Red Eddies (5-3), who also beat Bangor 50-44 on Monday.

Addison Jordan had 17 points and Kylie Lamson chipped in with 12 for the Stags (5-2), who dropped their second straight game — the other a 47-44 loss to Scarborough on Monday.

BANGOR 40, OXFORD HILLS 39: Avery Clark led a balanced offensive attack with 13 points, and the Rams withstood several chances for the Vikings in the final minute to hold on for a key Class AA North win in Bangor.

Dalaney Horr added 12 points and Ayzlynn Gifford scored nine for the Rams (5-2).

Ella Pelletier paced Oxford Hills (6-2) with 25 points.

POLAND 61, NORTH YARMOUTH ACADEMY 43: Sophomore Charlotte Grenier made eight 3-pointers and poured in a game-high 30 points as the Knights (6-0) continued their unbeaten start with an 18-point victory over the Panthers (3-4) in Poland.

Phoebe Paradis added 13 points for Poland, and Payton Rose finished with eight points.

North Yarmouth Academy’s Athena Gee hit seven 3-pointers and scored 21 points, while Ella Giguere had 14.

GRAY-NEW GLOUCESTER 52, LAKE REGION 34: Izzy Morelli scored 12 points and the visiting Patriots (7-2) opened with a 17-4 run against Lakers (4-2) in Naples.

Abbey Steele added 11 points, while Emma Hamilton, Ella Kenney and Laney Farrar finished with seven apiece for the Patriots.

Margo Tremblay had 10 points for Lake Region.

BOYS BASKETBALL
BREWER 35, MT. BLUE 32: The Witches (9-0) won a defensive duel with the Cougars (5-3) in Farmington to remain unbeaten.

Brewer held Mt. Blue to seven second-half points, and each team only scored three points in the fourth quarter.

Owen Fullerton, who had all three of the Witches’ points in the fourth, and Steven Youngs led Brewer with nine points apiece.

Mt. Blue’s Carter Norton made three 3-pointers and scored a game-best 13 points.

BUCKFIELD 88, RANGELEY 44: Brayden Monto’s 23 points spurred the Bucks (3-5) as they doubled up the Lakers (1-6) in Buckfield.

Trenton Haskell added 13 points and Nolan Litchfield finished with 12 for Buckfield.

Sam Morrill and Keegan O’Neil were Rangeley’s top scorers with 11 points apiece.

POLAND 66, NORTH YARMOUTH ACADEMY 25: Damon Martin scored 16 points, Nick Jamo added 10, and the Knights (4-2) cruised past the Panthers (0-7) in Yarmouth.

Brayden Kloza led NYA with 13 points.

OXFORD HILLS 66, BANGOR 64: Brayden Murch scored 11 of his 26 points in the fourth quarter as the Vikings (5-4) beat the Rams (1-7) in Paris.

Cameron Pulkkinen added 10 points for Oxford Hills.

Josh Grunkemeyer scored 21 points, Nate Grunkemeyer had 14 points and Harry Fitzpatrick added 13 for Bangor.

GRAY-NEW GLOUCESTER 54, LAKE REGION 46: Colby Mitchell scored 15 points and John Patenaude added 14 points as the Patriots (2-7) beat the Lakers (2-4) in Gray.

Isaiah Portas also reached double figures, finishing with 10 points.

Jacoby Bradsley scored 10 points for Lake Region.

CHEVERUS 58, EDWARD LITTLE 43: The Stags (7-1) pulled away in the second half to beat the Red Eddies (5-3) in Auburn.

Cheverus trailed 24-23 at the half then outscored Edward Little 35-19 over the final two quarters. Leo McNabb scored 14 of his game-high 22 points after halftime for the Stags. Jameson Fitzpatrick added 14 points, Nicola Plalum chipped in 10 and Shema Rwaganje made three 3-pointers and scored nine points.

Diing Maiwen led the Red Eddies with 18 points, and Akol Maiwen finished with 11 points.

ST. DOMINIC 68, WAYNFLETE 39: Jack Brocke scored 16 points and three other Saints (6-1) reached double figures in a win over the Flyers (4-3) in Portland.

Taylor Varney added 14 points, Donel Tangilamesu had 12 and Mason LaFlamme finished with 10 for St. Dom’s.

Jed Alsup led Waynflete with 10 points. JJ Carol and Milo Momone each dropped in nine.

MEDOMAK VALLEY 55, SPRUCE MOUNTAIN 43: Kristian Schumann scored 18 points, Gabe Lash added 17 points and nine rebounds, and the Panthers (7-0) won a battle of unbeaten teams in Waldoboro.

Mason Nguyen added nine points and grabbed six rebounds for Medomak, which opened up a 42-30 lead with a 15-6 advantage in the third quarter.

Cai Dougher had 15 points and Dylan Jewett added 12 for Spruce Mountain (7-1).

LEAVITT 55, MCI 52: Colin Schlobohm made two free throws with eight seconds left to force overtime, then scored five points in the extra session to lift the Hornets (4-3) past the Huskies (3-6) in Pittsfield.

Schlobohm made a pull-up jumper with 55 seconds left in OT to give Leavitt the lead, then Riley Meisner drew a charge, forced a jump ball to give the ball to the Hornets and made a free throw to seal the win.

Schlobohm finished with 22 points, eight rebounds, three assists, three steals and two blocks. Dane Cabral added 12 points and Brody Poland had 10.

Drew Shorey had 16 points and David Wright added 11 for MCI.

BOYS HOCKEY
BANGOR/NARRAGUAGUS 6, EDWARD LITTLE 2: Marc-Andre Perron scored twice and added two assists, leading the Rams (2-3) over the Red Eddies (1-4) at Norway Savings Bank Arena in Auburn.

Chase Caron had two goals and an assist. Caden Karam notched a goal and an assist, and Preston Karam also scored for Bangor. Rams goalie Cody McCue stopped 18 shots.

Andrew Clements scored both Edward Little goals, and Caden Westhoven made 13 saves.

GIRLS HOCKEY
BREWER/BANGOR/HAMPDEN/HERMON/JOHN BAPST/OLD TOWN/ORONO 7, ST. DOMINIC 0: Jordin Williams notched a hat trick and added two assists as the Pioneers (4-3-2) beat the Saints (1-6) at Penobscot Ice Arena in Brewer.

Ella Davis scored twice and added three assists, while Isabelle Brideau had a goal and two assists and Caleigh Coleman tallied a goal and an assist.

Pioneers goalie Mariah Coon stopped all 10 shots she faced to earn the shutout. Alana Wheeler made 44 saves for St. Dom’s.

FALMOUTH/SCARBOROUGH 2, GREELY/GRAY-NEW GLOUCESTER 1: Maya Fongemie and Lexie Bellerose each had a goal and an assist for Falmouth/Scarborough (5-5) in a win over the Rangers (0-9) at Family Ice Center in Falmouth.

Avery Larson assisted on both goals.

Jane Flynn scored for Greely/Gray-New Gloucester, while Rangers goalie Charley Louie turned aside 51 shots.
