RUMFORD — Hotel Rumford and Smart Care PT, Inc. are off to a great start and undefeated at 4-0. Both teams won handily with Hotel Rumford defeating Flint Tropics, 79-56, and Smart Care pounding Cherry Pickers, 79-43.
The Hotel and Tropics (1-3) game was close until halfway through the second half when the winners stepped up their defense and cruised to victory. The Hotel was led by Kalen Chase with 30 points, Tom Danylik adding 25, and Zach New, 11. Flint Tropics’ Brikeem Sherrod was top man with 17 points.
Smart Care took care of business early, going out to a 20-point lead in the first half to put their game with Cherry Pickers (2-2) out of reach. Double-digit scorers for the winners were Cody St. Germain, scoring 16 points, Trent Holman with 15, Austin Adams, with 11 (3 threes), and Ben Holmes, 10. Gavin Hebert has 10 points for Cherry Pickers.
The next two games were close, and surprisingly so. An undermanned Clean Cut Painting (2-2) held off a valiant effort by a winless Team Zespy (0-4), 79-72. Then A & G Carpentry (3-1) barely secured a 90-85 win over a very short-handed, winless Jay (0-4), 90-85.
Clean Cut had 4 high scorers, Keegan Pitcher 25 points (5 threes), Will Bean 24, Draven Finnegan 14, and Mike Pare 10. Zespy’s leaders were Trent Cullahn 19 points (5 threes), Pat Connery 16, Dan Whitney 13 (3 threes), and Sean Caddigan 12. A & G’s high scorers were Joe Gaudreau with 24 points (8 threes), Malik Farley with 23, and Hunter Meeks, with 14. Jay got a big game from Dom Haines with 36 points (4 threes) and was helped by Jake Turner, 22 (4 threes), Steve Hougher, 12, and Jake Bessey with 11.
