OLD ORCHARD BEACH — Monmouth had a strong finish to the first half then pulled away in the second half to beat Old Orchard Beach 60-43 in a Class C South boys basketball game Friday.
The Mustangs (5-3) scored the final six points of the second quarter to grab a 27-26 lead, then outscored the Seagulls 31-17 after halftime.
Levi Laverdiere led the reigning Class C state champions with 18 points. Jacob Harmon, whose three-point play at the end of the first half put Monmouth in front, finished with 11 points.
Trot Moody scored 19 points and Riley Provencher had 10 for the Seagulls (1-7).
GIRLS BASKETBALL
OLD ORCHARD BEACH 42, MONMOUTH ACADEMY 26: Tessa Ferguson scored 18 of her 24 points in the second half to lead the Seagulls (2-6) past the Mustangs (4-4) at Old Orchard Beach.
Old Orchard Beach snapped a six-game losing streak and avenged a 20-point loss at Monmouth early in the season.
Corinne Androkitis, a freshman, added 14 points for OOB.
Maeve Burgess and Kaitlyn Frost led Monmouth (4-4) with five points apiece.
MADISON 60, OAK HILL 28: A big second quarter propelled the Bulldogs (4-3) to a triumph over the Raiders (2-7) in Madison.
A pair of Kendall Theriault 3-pointers helped Oak Hill to a 13-7 advantage after one quarter, but Madison bounced back with a 21-3 second quarter to lead 28-16 at halftime.
Ava Landry and Mackenzie Robbins led the second-period charge with seven points apiece. Landry put up a game-high 13 points, while Robbins had 10 and Jacey Moody scored 12.
Mackenzee Wardwell led Oak Hill with nine points. Theriault finished with seven.
