Nummies joins the growing number of food trucks in the Bethel Area, outside of BOA Submitted

BETHEL — The coming of the Winter season also brings new food opportunities in Bethel, with the opening of Nummies, a breakfast food truck outside of Bethel Outdoor Adventure.

The food truck is owned and run by Erin and Garin Martin, owners of BOA. Erin Martin described the food truck as a “winter passtime” for a season when there are no campers or people going out on the river. The food truck is run entirely by the two of them, with no additional staff.

“It’s a fun thing for us, as business owners, to do in the winter,” she said. Part of the reason they chose to run the food truck entirely on their own is to reduce spending during the winter. “We have the opportunity to do that ourselves without hiring people,” said Erin.

One of the goals of Nummies was, according to Martin, to “offer a really affordable food option.” Due to Bethel’s status as a tourist town, food prices tend toward the more expensive, and the Martins wanted a place where people could find fast, affordable breakfast food.

Erin said that they “are starting to incorporate some of the local farm options.” The food truck uses many local ingredients in its breakfast options, including sausage and chorizo from Jade’s Homegrown goods, and sauce from Morning Glory farms.

Already having ownership of BOA helped with convenience in terms of placement of the food truck. “It was a really easy access point for us,” said Erin Martin. Its position right next to Route 2 also allows for easy access from the road. “People can literally just order online and drive right up, drive right through, and get back on the road,” she said.

“When traffic is backed all the way up, they could probably not even lose their spot in the line.” The food truck is connected to the electric, water, and septic systems of the camp ground, though a separate license was required. “We had a lot of push back on getting that license for a food truck,” said Erin. However, the license has since been secured, leaving the truck fully operational.

Erin said that they have received positive feedback from the community in regard to the food truck, and have seen many returning customers who may not have been a presence at BOA, but have come by to say hello.

“We know a lot of people in the area anyway, it’s just been really nice to see those faces and become consistent.” The food truck also has a mug club for regular returners, and allows them to keep the mug.

Erin and Garin do their best to provide good service to cars coming through, including bringing the food directly out to the car. “No other place does that,” said Erin, “It’s a nice touch that people have commented on. The way the food truck is set up, you can drive right through and we can hand it to you instead of getting out of your car”
