HARTFORD — An external heating source to thaw pipes sparked a fire Friday morning that destroyed a home on Bear Pond Road, Turner Fire Chief Nicholas Merry said.
No one was in the residence when the fire started, but a cat perished.
The call came in about 8:30 a.m. and firefighters were faced with heavy fire at the center of the home at 2008 Bear Pond Road, he said. It took crews from seven departments about 40 minutes to get it under control, Merry said. Slowing their progress were a pair of propane tanks outside the home.
The trailer home had a couple of additions, Merry said.
The State Fire Marshal’s Office investigated.
Providing assistance to Turner crews were fire departments from Buckfield, Livermore, Livermore Falls, Leeds, Canton and Sumner.
