100 Years Ago: 1925

A cup is on display in a local store window to be known as the “Waterfalls Trophy.” It has been presented to the Mechanic Falls Ski Club by the Poland Paper Co., for annual competition among the Ski Clubs of the State of Maine and will be awarded for proficiency in ski running and jumping.

50 Years Ago: 1975

Turner and Mechanic Falls girls are among the eight apple princesses competing for the Maine Apple Queen title at the 34th Annual Maine Agricultural Trades Show which is to be held next Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday at the Augusta Civic Center.

Norene Bailey of Turner represents Androscoggin Pomona and Cindy Harlow of Mechanic Falls, Oxford Grange. They will compete with Beverly Shores, Gardiner, East Kennebec; Cindy Rae Towne, Fairfield, Somerset; Sherrie Brooks, Robbinston, Washington; Linda Goodblood, Burnham, North Waldo; Lora Ann Stadler, Acton, York; and Anne Vrooman of Waldoboro, Lincoln.

25 Years Ago: 2000

Androscoggin Home Care and Hospice recently received two bequests totaling $30,000. Gifts from the estate of Frank Everett Walker of Farmington and the estate of an anonymous donor have been invested with other planned gifts and provide a source of sustained income to meet patient needs not covered by Medicare, Medicaid or private health plans.
