PARIS — The Select Board amended its Purchasing and Goods Policy on Monday night, allowing it to dispose of old and unwanted town equipment and furniture.

According to Town Manager Natalie Andrews, the current policy states the town manager hold a yearly public sale to dispose of such things as chairs, tables or even an old firetruck. She checked with the Maine Municipal Association to see what other towns do.

“Their recommendation is to scratch the annual public sale,” she said, and instead authorize the Select Board to dispose of property under terms and conditions as they deem advisable.

Andrews suggested the board set an amount where bids would be required.

Selectmen decided on $10,000, which could include trucks and fire equipment.

The board unanimously adopted the change.

In other business, selectmen accepted the donation of an old forestry truck it has used with permission of the owner, who recently died. His estate offered it to the town, Andrews said. The board accepted the gift, estimated to be worth $2,000.

The board also accepted a $100 anonymous gift for the town’s arts and craft program.

With several compliments from the public and town officials about the light display in Moore Park, the board voted to leave the lights up until the end of February.

Andrews reported that the Paris Utility District said there would be no sewer rate increase this year.
