BETHEL — The Bethel Selectboard met Wednesday, Jan. 8. An item of concern was the entertainment permit for the Bethel Inn. Citizen comments included an email that had been read over by the selectboard regarding noise concerns.
There was a brief point of debate from Mike Everett, owner of the Stoned Moose medical dispensary. Everett clarified that the business is being consolidated with another business of theirs, and there is the potential of a name change moving forward.
Discussion was held regarding the flood plan for Maine, as the area is required to have a flood plan. This was noted as important, especially after the December floods last year.
During the meeting, a presentation was given by Mia Purcell of First Light, discussing First Light’s plans for establishing Wi-FI in homes in Maine. The plan will provide free equipment for Wi-FI, but will require clients to pay for internet coverage after the first year. The goal is to allow more internet connection in remote houses, including areas that may be off-grid. Purcell said that First Light has listed Maine as a priority when it comes to bringing Wi-FI to homes.
During the meeting, Pat Mcartney was appointed as the Select Board’s representative on the Ordinance Review Committee. At the end of the meeting, an executive session was held. Post session, a motion was held and then passed to remove Ross Bragg from the Airport Authority Board due to lack of attendance and participation.
