DEAR SUN SPOTS: I’m looking for a person or business that can monogram birth information onto the ears of a stuffed rabbit. I’m looking forward to reading responses in the column. — Emily, no town
ANSWER: This is an unusual request but I’m sure someone in Sun Spots Land will be able to help you. I noticed online that there are companies that sell bunnies with monogrammed ears. I didn’t know it was a thing!
There is a company in Topsham, “Fixin’ 2 Stitch and Print” (400-9980). On their website, the information states that monogramed items need to be purchased through them but they do make exceptions so give them a call to find out more. The business is open Monday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
DEAR SUN SPOTS: Once again, AARP Tax-Aide will be providing free income tax preparation services for low/moderate income taxpayers for the 2024 filing season.
Beginning the week of Feb. 6, our experienced IRS Certified Tax Volunteers will be preparing and electronically filing federal and Maine income tax returns.
We will be working out of Sacred Heart Church, which is located at the corner of Minot and Western avenues in Auburn. The street address is 8 Sacred Heart Place.
This service is by appointment only and all ages are welcome. You do not have to be a member of AARP to use this service.
Our appointment line will open on Jan.y 15. Appointments may be made by calling 513-3170 and leaving a message on our voicemail. Please be sure to clearly state your name — spell it if it is a difficult one — then say and repeat your phone number. Our scheduler will call you back to set up your appointment. Be sure that you will have all your tax information ready for the date you choose.
We will also have a group of preparers who will prepare Maine property and sales tax credit returns over the telephone. Please check your paper work from last year to make sure that the only item we prepared for you was the 1040-ME. If so, we can do your return over the phone and that will save you a trip to the site. — No name, no town
ANSWER: Readers, I’m repeating this information a few times during tax season to be sure everyone who needs the service has an opportunity to see it and sign up.
DEAR SUN SPOTS: I’m just wondering if Sun Spots has heard from anyone having a bottle drive coming up soon? And will they be picking them up? — No name, no town
ANSWER: I haven’t heard of anything recently but around Christmas time Tommy’s Feral Feline Friends had a bottle drive and Roopers Redemption Centers had agreed to accept bottles and cans at all their locations. You just need to identify your donation as going to Tommy’s Feral Feline Friends Fund. Go here for more information: https://www.tommysferalfelinefriends.com/ and call the Roopers nearest you to see if they are still taking bottles for Tommy’s.
Another alternative is to contact the Boy Scout Troop in your area. I’m sure they would be happy to take those bottles off your hands.
Readers, let us know of any nonprofits collecting bottles and cans this winter.
