LEWISTON — It was a banner night for Lewiston at The Colisee
Before their game against Edward Little, the Blue Devils unveiled their state championship banner with the addition of the 2024 Class A title-winning team, which was the 25th championship in the history of a program celebrating its 100th season.
On the ice, the Blue Devils defeated the Red Eddies 6-1 behind Aizyk Laliberte’s second-period hat trick.
“You know, Lewiston-EL is always an emotional game,” Cloutier said. “I’m proud of the way the boys played. A little extra motivation halfway through the season for them to see that banner going up.
After wins against Portland/South Portland/Deering/Waynflete on Jan. 9 and Falmouth on Jan. 11, the Red Eddies have now lost two straight.
“We’re just playing,”Edward Little coach Kevin Smith said. “The last two games have just been a lot of hesitation and inconsistency. We can’t only have a few guys on it every night. We’ve got to have a whole group going. Unfortunately, the game against Portland, the game against Falmouth, we had that. For some reason, something’s changed. We’ve got to try to get to the bottom of it in the room. Right now, everybody’s on their own page.”
Cam Plourde scored late in the first period and second period for Lewiston.
“Yeah, I mean, both those guys have a lot of skill, so I trust them with the stick on, with the puck on their stick.,” Cloutier said of Laliberte and Plourde. “More often than not, they make the right read, and when both of them are going, they’re a tough duo to stop.”
Jacoby Oliveira also scored in the second period and an an assists.
Jack Caron scored for the Red Eddies in the third period.
Smith said he let the players to try to figure things out in the second intermission.
“I actually turned the room over to the captains,” Smith said. “Felt like my voice was falling on deaf ears there for a little bit, and I wanted to see if we could get a little bit of a spark out of the captains. And I think we played a decent third. Granted, they played their third and fourth liners, so take that what you will. But sometimes you need leadership in the room to take over to try to get a spark out of guys.”
