Mad Horse Theatre plans to present Dark Horse Nights, a series of staged readings that can provide additional insights and conversation to the main stage productions they align with.
The reading of “The Breasts of Tiresias” is set for 7:30 p.m. Wednesdays, Jan. 22 and 29, at Mad Horse Theatre Company, 24 Mosher St., South Portland.
The production by Guillaume Apollinaire, directed by company member Nick Schroeder will take place on two Wednesdays during the run of Edward Albee’s “A Delicate Balance.”
In the play, set in Africa, a Frenchwoman, Thérèse, decides to become a man, and her breasts float away like two balloons; she is renamed Tiresias and becomes a general and a member of parliament. Between the first and second acts, her abandoned husband gives birth to more than 40,000 children, all in one afternoon.
The reading includes director company member Nick Schroeder and guest artists: Matthew Butcher, Rachel Gallagher, James Patefield, JJ Peeler and Maiya Koloski.
Tickets are pay what you decide. Note the Dark Horse Night reading of The Breasts of Tiresias is a separate reservation from the mainstream production.
