LEWISTON — The Lewiston boys hockey team’s top line is rolling.

Junior Aizyk Laliberte recorded his third straight hat trick, while Cam Plourde scored two goals for the second game in a row in the Blue Devils’ 7-4 win over Kents Hill on Wednesday.

In the last six games, Laliberte had 11 goals and three assists, while Plourde has five goals and six assists. Linemate Matt Levasseur had three assists on Wednesday to snap a six-game pointless streak.

“I think we work really well together,” Laliberte said. “We move the puck good and we use each other when we really can.”

Lewiston coach Sam Cloutier said the entire team is focused right now. The Blue Devils, ranked second in the latest Varsity Maine boys hockey poll, have won six straight.

“I think we’re just starting to build some chemistry, you know, our lines are really starting to build,” Cloutier said. “We’re playing more disciplined hockey and we’re playing really well in our zones. I think we’re getting the cycle going, we’re using our points and the guys are getting to the net and it’s showing.”

How did they do it?

The Blue Devils top line got them going in the first period.

Laliberte scored twice, both times faking out Kents Hill goalie Gabe Robinson in front of the crease. Plourde scored in a similar fashion. Levasseur recorded an assist on each goal.

“If you give a fake, then he’ll just go right for the first option,” Plourde said of Robinson.

Kents Hill coach Bill Desmarais wasn’t surprised by Lewiston’s top line’s output.

“I mean, we knew they were good,” Desmarais said. “We knew that those are the guys getting all their points, and they did the same thing tonight. No different, but, you know, once we get a couple more guys back, I think you’re going to see a different game in a few weeks.”

Liam Ross scored with 1:41 remaining in the first period for the Huskies to cut the deficit to 3-1. Kents Hill stayed aggressive and fired a handful of shots on Lewiston goalie Will Routhier before the end of the period.

But Lewiston regained momentum when Plourde scored his second goal of the game 16 seconds into the second period. Austin Landry scored 2:07 into the period to extend the Blue Devils’ lead to 5-1.

What does it mean?

Lewiston remains atop the Class A Heal point standings.

This was the second game of three this week against Lewiston-Auburn opponents for the Huskies. Kents Hill defeated Edward Little 5-2 on Monday and hosts St. Dom’s on Friday.

They said it

“We definitely took our foot off the gas a little bit (in the third period) and that’s something that we need to clean up. Our guys need to be able to play three full periods. They’ve proven that they can do that, but tonight it was a little bit of a slow period. I think for both teams, but, our guys held strong.” — Sam Cloutier

“Yeah, you know, it’s hard, right? We got 10 guys. We had a big game emotionally against EL on Monday. You know, the kids are tired. It’s a lot to ask. We skate every day. So, you know, today’s a bad day. Tomorrow’s a new day. And that’s what we need to look forward to.” — Bill Desmarais
