DEAR SUN SPOTS: Would you please ask your readers if they could share information about solar panels? Someone came to my house and the program they offer looks very good, but I don’t know anyone with solar panels and I would like more information, such as what customers like about them or not. More details would be great. Thanks a million for your help. — No name, no town

ANSWER: It’s so important to get advice and collective wisdom from others, especially when making a big purchase that could actually be life changing.

Readers, please do your fellow Sun Spotter a favor and let’s hear from you. Meanwhile, be sure to go to Efficiency Maine at https://www.efficiencymaine.com/renewable-energy/solar-electric/ for some good information, including pros and cons, to help you make your decision, as well as visiting the U.S. Department of Energy’s website at https://www.energy.gov/energysaver/using-solar-electricity-home .

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Regarding the Minot resident asking about old church pews, the Franco Center has some in various sizes for sale. Call Theresa at the Center at 783-1585. — Jan, Auburn

ANSWER: Excellent! Thank you so much for responding to this Jan. 22 request. As a backup, readers, please add some other resources for wooden church pews if you know of any.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: This is the time of year when people are decluttering and culling their Christmas décor and other holiday items. Fairbanks Union Church in Farmington is willing to take them. We will collect all Christmas items, including ornaments, trees, wreaths, garlands, lights, linens, dishes, books, music, village scenes, inside and outside decorations, ugly Christmas sweaters, anything Christmas!

We will accept Christmas items all year for our sale that takes place in November. We had such an overwhelming response from Sun Spots readers last year and we are very thankful to all of you who donated items.

For more information, please call Cindy at 491-4017 or Carole at 860-6334. The church is at 583 Fairbanks Road in Farmington. All proceeds go to our mission and outreach program.

ANSWER: This announcement is so timely, especially since I was just puttering around gathering my holiday decorations the day I received this letter, and of course I thought of you folks.

I encourage everyone who has “too much of a good thing” Christmas-wise to call the church and arrange to drop off your no-longer-needed/wanted items. Of course, you’ll want to give only things that are still in good shape and working, with all the parts and pieces intact.

I love that this church holds this unique and special sale year after year and that it is a success for them. I encourage everyone involved to keep up the good work!
