Senior guard Johnny Patenaude scored 40 points Saturday as Gray-New Gloucester boosted its hopes of qualifying for the Class A South tournament by rolling to a 69-56 boys basketball win over Greely, in Cumberland.
It was the fourth straight win for the reigning Class A state champions after a 2-10 start. The Patriots led 34-17 at halftime, then put the game out of reach by outscoring Greely 24-9 in the third quarter, fueled by 16 points from Patenaude.
Colby Mitchell chipped in with 15 points.
Kade Ippolito (14 points), Rocky Axelsen (12) and Ethan Michaud (10) scored in double figures for Greely (9-8), which has lost fourth in a row.
LEAVITT 49, MORSE 47: Colin Schlobohm’s basket with two seconds remaining lifted the Hornets (8-8) over the Shipbuilders (4-13) in Turner.
After Leavitt’s Cooper Morin tied the game at 47 with 3-pointer, Schlobohm converted on a post-up move after a pass from Jacob Gibbs.
Schlobohm led the Hornets with 16 points and eight rebounds. Gibbs had 12 points and five assists.
Waylon Rhorer scored 18 points for Morse.
ST. DOMINIC 81, SACOPEE VALLEY 38: Isaac Yombe finished with 16 points, leading the Saints (15-1) over the Hawks (3-14) in Hiram.
Donel Tangilamesu added 12 points, and four others finished with at least eight.
Silas Nielsen led Sacopee with 10 points and 12 rebounds.
POLAND 49, LAKE REGION 39: Jake Jamo had 19 points, five rebounds and three steals as the Knights (12-4) beat the Lakers (9-8) in Poland.
Nick Jamo added 14 points, five assists and three steals, while Damon Martin had 11 assists and five rebounds.
Brock Gibbons and Jacoby True both scored eight points for Lake Region.
MESSALONSKEE 51, MT. BLUE 39: Ty Bernier led a balanced offense with 13 points as the Eagles (14-2) defeated the Cougars (11-6) in Farmington.
Parker Reynolds added 10 points.
Evan Drake scored 12 points and Tyler Abell had 11 for Mt. Blue.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
LEAVITT 48, MORSE 45: Caitlyn McCoy connected on six 3-pointers and finished with 27 points as the Hornets (10-6) edged the Shipbuilders (7-10) in Bath.
McCoy got Leavitt off to a fast start, making three 3-pointers in the opening quarter, but Morse erased a 10-point deficit in the second quarter and led 20-19 at halftime.
McCoy then scored 18 points in the second half.
Gabrielle Smith added 13 points, including 9 of 12 free throws.
Reese Darling sank four 3-pointers and finished with 18 points for Morse.
BOYS HOCKEY
MARSHWOOD 4, FRYEBURG 3: Evan Wilson scored in overtime to give Marshwood/Traip/Sanford/Noble (8-5) victory over Fryeburg/Lake Region/Oxford Hills (2-11) in Dover, New Hampshire.
Shane Cullity had two goals for the Knighthawks and Emmett Hammond also scored.
Jacoby Boyce, Conner Richard and Jokubas Mostavicius scored for the Ice Cats.
GIRLS HOCKEY
GORHAM 6, GREELY 1: Azalea Grant and Carlin Galligan each scored twice for Gorham/Bonny Eagle/Massabesic/Fryeburg/Lake Region/Westbrook (10-7-1) in a win over Greely/Gray-New Gloucester (0-18) at Falmouth’s Family Ice Center.
Grant also picked up an assist. Katelyn Cyr had a goal and an assist, and Lia Collins got the other goal.
Zoe Trepaney scored for Greely, and Charley Louie made 46 saves.
