WEST PARIS — The annual town meeting is set for Saturday when voters will elect a selectman, an Oxford Hills School District director and two Water District trustees.
The meeting will be begin at 10 a.m. at Ring-McKeen American Legion Post 151 on Church Street.
Selectmen approved the annual meeting warrant at their Feb. 13 meeting.
Town Manager Joy Downing thanked the town Highway Department employess for their work this winter. She said residents have been very supportive. Those who wish to show their appreciation could visit the garage Monday through Friday, 6:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The crew likes cookies, donuts and black coffee, she said.
Also at the meeting, board Chair Eli White and members Shawn Boutilier and Wade Rainey reviewed paving bids and approved Spencer Paving’s offer of $85,597.50.
Water District operator Bill Gardner reported that the town’s reservoir, which serves the majority of residents, has outlived its useful life. “We desperately need a new tank to replace the old one,” he said. The cost is estimated at $4.2 million.
Gardner added that he is pursuing every possible grant to help fund the project, though the town will need to cover part of the cost.
The money will also cover replacing all infrastructure on High Street.
Gardner emphasized the system is struggling to handle the pressure, and the new system would improve flow to the town.
Gardner noted that to qualify for the Community Development Block Grant, the town will need to conduct an income survey to confirm it is a disadvantaged community. The survey will be conducted among the 220 water system users this summer.
