PORTLAND — Portland Stage Company is presenting “Madeleines” by Maine writer Bess Welden. This world premier play has a script that has already won awards.
Part of Portland Stage’s ongoing commitment to Maine-made theater and producing new work, this play tells the story of Debra and Jennifer, two sisters processing the death of their mother, a professional baker. When a secret hidden among their mother’s recipes is discovered, the siblings fracture and their understanding of family is put to the test.
A play about sweets, familial rivalry, and learning to let go, Welden’s work asks people to examine how, and what, to forgive.
Performance dates are set for Wednesday to Sunday, March 5-23; times vary. Tickets range from $20-$73, with discounts for seniors 65-plus and students.
Tickets are available at portlandstage.org.
