Winifred L. Mitterholzer
NORWAY – Winifred L Mitterholzer unexpectedly passed away over Valentine’s weekend at 60 years old. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, family member, friend, coworker, and nurse. Wini was born Sept. 2, 1964, in Philadelphia to Sheryl Coddington and Leo Mitterholzer.
She was a bright young girl, excelling in both reading and writing, moving to Connecticut as a young child, often taking responsibility for her younger siblings; a caretaker trait that would follow throughout her life. Following suit, she started her family early, marrying the father of her children at 15-years-old, and becoming a mother a few months later. The relationship resulted in three sons and a beautiful daughter, yet did not last. As a young single mother of four children, Wini persevered through tough times, put herself through night school for her GED, and then college to attain her nursing degree; all while working overtime as a CNA, and still managing a household of children.
She lived in Connecticut until 1996, when she relocated her family to Maine. She was lovingly known as Ma Dukes, always opening her heart and home to those in need, never complaining about an extra mouth to feed. She loved her animals, cooking, reading, gardening, and spending time with her grandchildren. Wini had a profound effect on all that knew her. She was fiercely protective of family, friends, and patients alike, often going above and beyond for those she loved. Wini pushed all four of her children through high school and onto collegiate careers, knowing the hardships of life. Her determination and will are a testament of who her children are.
She leaves behind her four
children, Derik and his wife Katie Hammond; their sons, Brandon and Brody; Jesse and his wife Kassy Hammond; their children, Ryan, Madison, and Melody; as well as stepgrandchildren, Sammie and Alex; Tyler and his wife Amanda Hammond; their children, Ashton and Trenton; Alicia and her husband Ian Gierhan; their children, Leo and Van; among many others impacted by her passing. Her loss is immeasurable upon those it has impacted and she will be greatly missed within her family, friends, and community.
There will be visiting hours on Saturday, March 1, 2025, from 2-4 p.m., at Chandler Funeral Homes and Cremation Service, 45 Main St., South Paris. Online condolences may be shared with her family at http://www.chandlerfunerals.com
