AUBURN — Without any explanation the organizers of Auburn On Tap canceled a beer-tasting event and are issuing refunds. People who bought tickets started receiving refunds last week with no explanation and it wasn’t until Monday the event website confirmed the event planned for April 12 was no longer on.

“We regret to inform you that Auburn On Tap scheduled for Saturday, April 12 has been canceled,” a post on auburnontap.com states. “We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your understanding. If you bought tickets, refunds will be sent via Eventbrite to your original point of purchase. Please stay tuned for updates on any rescheduled events or future announcements.”

The event was planned for the Norway Savings Bank Arena. Calls and emails to arena management went unanswered. Calls and emails to the organizer, Townsquare Media, also went unanswered. A chat message simply stated, “we do not typically comment on why we cancel an event.”

Several people posted on social media that Auburn On Tap was canceled due to low or slow ticket sales. Olive Pit Brewing in Lisbon Falls is among them.

Townsquare Media started promoting on social media on Feb. 3, offering two ticket options — $55 for four hours of “beer sampling” or three hours of sampling for $38.

Portland On Tap was held Feb. 1 at the Cross Insurance Arena. Auburn On Tap would have been the first event put on by Townsquare Media in Auburn and Lewiston.

Townsquare Media is a digital media and marketing company with over 300 radio stations and 400 websites and puts on some 100 live events a year around the country. The company is based in Purchase, New York, and Boca Raton, Florida.
