Regional School Unit 9 sold the former Ingalls School in Farmington for $1, as it was useless. Now RSU 9 wants to buy it back for $1.6 million.

I have some questions that need to be answered, hopefully in print. The answers are just yes or no; no explanations needed.

Has this building been certified structurally sound by a certified engineer?

Have there been at least $1 million in renovations done to this building?

Is the electrical up to code on all floors?

Is the plumbing up to code on all floors?

Has all the asbestos been removed from all floors and inside the walls?

Has it been tested for lead paint on all floors?

Have all the windows been replaced on all floors with energy-efficient ones?

Is the HVAC system up to date and within code?

Is this building ADA compliant with an elevator to all floors?

If any one of these concerns are answered with a “no,” then why would the voters of RSU 9 consider purchasing this building? In my opinion it is just another money pit we will have for years to come.

I also would like to express that if any of these questions need an explanation, then someone is not being truthful. With that said, if in fact the voters approve this and then we find one of these concerns was not answered truthfully, then I would suggest very strongly that the superintendent all the way down to the School Board resign immediately.
